Gimp Tutorial: Inteligent Scissors Background Removal

A decent reference but it does not explain how just what. For how you will need more detailed books. I bought it at a bookstore for two dollars and it was worth it. Ten dollars was the original price and I don't think it would have been worth that much.
This is a very good quick reference guide to the GIMP, although it is slightly out-of-date already (but that's the nature of Open Source software development). ...
This guide informs designers working in a Linux/Unix or Windows environment with a powerful and complex image manipulation tool. The GIMP, a free Open Source image editor and a design application that approximates Photoshop in terms of functionality and power, runs on most *nix platforms.

Inside This Book (learn more) First Sentence: The GNU Image Manipulation Program, commonly called the GIMP, is a freely distributed program for UNIX-like systems running the X Window system, including the popular Linux operating system. Read the first page Key Phrases - Statistically Improbable Phrases (SIPs): (learn more) specified drawable, drawable drawable drawable, white fill layer, cubism filter, tileable images, mprc file, procedural database, plasma texture, floating selection, tool options dialog box, original bounding box, specified stroke, new text layer, full contrast range, specified layer, run mode, window context menus, brush mask, feather option, brush dialog box, rectangular selection tool, indexed images, patterns dialog box, font server, fill tool

While this was not what I was hoping for, it is an excellent introduction to the GIMP. Basic concepts are covered in some detail, and more advanced topics are commented on (mostly, it seems, to give an idea of just how powerful this program really is). The author also frequently advises experimentation, which is really the only way to learn a program like this. Especially useful (to me, anyway) was the admittedly brief coverage on how the GIMP differs from other equivalent programs, especially those from the Mac and Windows worlds.

Please comment and rate videos - this will help other people find them by ranking them higher...it takes a second :)---Removing Backgrounds Part 1 of 2A basic tutorial for the GIMP using the Scissors Select tool.--Apologies for the quality - I had CamStudio set up incorrectly and had to put this vid through an encoder which cruddied it up no end!
